Lucky us to have found Wadsworth to be home! On the corner of our historic downtown sits a building that for almost 100 years comes alive when people gather. Bringing back this incredible 1917 corner with its original maple floor and tin roof makes you feel like you’re living a piece of history. Creating a gathering place for our community was a dream. I said it out loud to a group of women in May, 2008. I was teaching a life design class, and we were discussing that no matter where you live, you can come alive by doing what gives back. A professor once told me, “No matter what you are doing now, you should be planning what you are doing next.” So that night someone asked me, “What are you doing next?” “Oh, that’s easy,” I said, “I am going to open a coffee house!” I said enthusiastically. Well, I was just kidding, sort of.
But funny things happen when you say a dream out loud…three months later, I received a surprise phone call from a friend, and she told me that Caffessimo was going to sell and she heard my dream was to open a coffee house. In just one year, we have grown to 23 staff members (we call ourselves the Café W’s) and we are all bonded because we share the same vision…making Whole Day Café a wonder-full place to carry on the tradition of people coming together in the heart of Wadsworth. My heart beats so excitedly when I look around the café and see new friends and old alike stopping by for a cup of coffee, a really good sandwich and most of all, a little cheer. At any given time, you can see the booths filled with women sharing stories, men talking over a contract, and groups of students talking and studying with a smoothie in hand. I have two more favorites…we have so many customers who come in by themselves to work on their computer, read a magazine and enjoy the buzz of the day. But they’re not alone at all – they are part of the buzz of the day and we wouldn’t be Whole Day without them! And I have to mention how special seeing all the dates that happen here at Whole Day are between husbands & wives, dads & sons, girlfriends & boyfriends (especially on Fridays!)
I love togetherness and for a moment in time, we are blessed to be a part of this special corner on earth. My feet really haven’t touched the ground, because I’m a lucky one to have a dream come true. Thank you to my beautiful family, to my amazing staff and especially to all our wonder-full customers – I love you all with all my heart!
